Wise Investment
On Tuesday March 1, 2011, Emily Rossier emailed:
Hi Nick,
I just found out about the Troy Spring restoration plans through the Little Italy newsletter. I fully support this project and feel it is a very wise investment.
I know the City government is spending a ton of money (millions) on South Troy infrastructure improvement projects to include sidewalks, pavement, lights, trees, trashcans, etc. I wonder about the potential for the Troy Spring project to be funded through this. I would definitely support money being diverted for this.
Fluoridation
On Friday February 18, 2011, Felicia Armijo emailed:
Greetings and salutations,
My primary concern is how much fluoride you have in the water. Have you ever tested the water, if so I would be interested in seeing the results.
Perhaps you could even post the results on the website as well. Many of my friends, colleagues, and family are skeptical of this spring and refuse to use or even donate without the proper water test results.
Home-Brew
On Tuesday November 9, 2010, Mark Cotch emailed:
Nick,
I am a user of the Spring Avenue water and would like to know the latest news on the restoration project. I have been going there for water for over 25 years. I live in Cohoes but my father's family is from South Troy. Almost all of them are passed away now. I use the water because Cohoes water is terrible and I like to use the Spring water in my home-brewed beer. I am currently unemployed (going back to school) so I can't really donate much $ right now. Let me know what's happening
A Friend of the Spring
On Friday, June 11, 2010, Mike Iannone emailed:
Hi Nick, Ken Zalewski told me about your project at the spring. And I wanted to thank you for undertaking this effort. This spring has been a source of water for me since the 1970's. In the mid-1980's I lived at 202 Hill and I worked at Pusatere's, both located down the hill from the spring. FYI - I grew up in Green Island with Dominic Capano's kids. Mr. Capano and his wife were friends with the Chuckrow's and he rebuilt the spring in their memory; as it is noted on the 2 markers on the front and side of the spring box. Anyway, I would like to support your project to rebuild the spring. I don't use credit cards. Usually, I just send a check and try to volunteer some free labor; if it's possible. Please let me know where I can send a check, and let me know if you can use some extra hands during the project. In closing, I wanted to let you know that I worked with John and Larry Moscatello at Bendix. I was just wondering if you were related to them? I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks again, Mike Iannone Green Island, NY
Hudson Saratoga Chefs Blog
On Monday, May 10, 2010, Noah Sheetz emailed:
Hi Nick,
I am writing a segment on the Troy spring for my local food blog, Hudson & Saratoga Local Foods. I have a few questions that I'm hoping you can answer. A friend of mine from work, and livelong troy resident, says that when she went to the spring as a child it was little more than a trickle of water that fell off some rocks. When was the pipe installed - in the 60's? The rock wall that supports the spring now, it has a plaque that says Dominic Capano. Who was he? Also, the Troy Record article that I read says Judy Westfall was trying to raise money for repairs and enhancements back in 2008. Was she able to raise the necessary money and have any repairs, restorations, or enhancements been made…
Note – If you can help provide answers to Mr. Sheetz’s questions, kindly contact him through his blog.
Friends receive congratulations on receiving city support at the last council meeting
On Friday, Jan. 9, 2010, Richard Herrick emailed:
Congratulations on receiving city support at the last council meeting and Thank YOU for taking this project on. I would like to help so please let me know how I can. Attached are two articles on the Chuckrow family who has a rich rich history in Troy [click here to read articles in a PDF]. Two thoughts; Are there any funds left in the trust fund that the article mentions and can that money be accessed to help with the renovation? Would contact with the Chuckrow family be appropriate to ask them if the stone could somehow be incorporated into the Spring's renovation? I feel it would be fitting but that would be up to the family. Right now the strone is sitting shamefully on the floor of our abandoned city hall.

Longevity and The Spring
On Thur. Jan 7, 2010 Clem Campana emailed:
…About 85 years ago, my great grandfather, Pasquale Bottuello drove a pipe into the side of Prospect Park hill, (on the east side near the site of the former Manning Paper Co.), and drew spring water from it until he died in 1975. Back then there were no plastic jugs and he would carry four glass gallon bottles back and forth every day until he was well into his 80’s. I’ve often wondered if that spring was a part of the same underground stream (as the Troy Spring). My great aunt Carm, his daughter, will be turning 101 next month. She lives in Troy Towers, and still drives to Price Chopper once a week. I’m sure that spring has something to do with her longevity.

I am the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 502, chartered by the Pawling Ave. United Methodist Church. Please keep me informed if there is any way our troop could assist in helping out with this. The troop could assist as a whole in a work day, or longer term as an Eagle Scout service project.
If a meeting comes up, please let me know. Either myself or a representative will try to attend.
Yours in Scouting, Mark Backhaus Lexington Ave.
